Carusallee, the new green axis, is essential for the structure of the emerging quarter. Construction of the Carusallee began in summer 2019. The asphalt work was completed at the end of 2020, but other measures are still ongoing.

A total of 11,500m2 of high-quality asphalt surfaces had to be created for the Carusallee and the outdoor area. The work was handled by a company from the region that specialises in asphalt paving, Schaupp Asphalt-Bau from Hammelburg in Lower Franconia. The company used a new BOMAG BF 200 C-2 compact paver for the first time on this job.

The compact and manoeuvrable machine was able to handle the paving work on the winding walkways according to the contractor.

The BF 200 offers a variable working width of 1.1-3.4m with a paving thickness of 200mm, and is suitable for confined site conditions. The machine is said to offer short setup times due to BOMAG’s proven Quick Coupling System, and rapid heating due to the BOMAG Magmalife screed heating system.

The company also used BW 100, BW 80 and BW 154 rollers from BOMAG to carry out the necessary compaction work.

The asphalt base course of the approximately 11,500m2 of asphalt surface was implemented with AC 32 TS asphalt base layer mix and a paving thickness of 100 or 140mm. AC 32 TS asphalt concrete with a paving thickness of 3.50mm was used for the asphalt surface.
