A British man saw an injured owl lying in the roadway as he drove past. Concerned for the bird’s welfare, he then ran over the creature repeatedly. When spotted doing so by a startled passer-by, he explained that he was putting the suffering creature out of its misery. He said also that he did not believe a vet would be interested in helping the injured bird.     Data from the US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that highway deaths increased to 33,561 in 2012, an increase of 1,082 over the figures for 2011.The official Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) data reveals that the majority of the increase in deaths, some 72%, occurred in the first quarter of 2012.     Two jewel thieves in the UK found their robbery soon faced a major hitch when a passer-by removed the keys to their getaway vehicle. The pair held up a jewellery shop and ran outside to see that someone had spotted the robbery in progress, pushed over their motorcycle and removed the keys.     A vehicle passenger in Scotland has been videoed jumping out of a moving vehicle for a bet. He accepted the £20 bet from his friends and after a moment of deliberation, jumped from the vehicle as it drove past a graveyard. His head did hit the ground and he was then filmed sitting stunned but luckily uninjured by the stunt. His friends found this hilarious and paid him the money. It is not clear if he intends to repeat the prank. It seems unlikely however that he would be able to find work as a stuntman.
