5012 Vermeer has added to its Navigator family of horizontal directional drill rigs with the launch of the D220x300.

The machine offers 1,077kN of thrust and pullback and 40,945Nm of rotational torque. The rig has been designed primarily for pipeline work and for major utility installations.

“As energy demands continue to grow and with increased exploration of unconventional natural gas reserves, the scope of work changes,” said Jon Heinen, Vermeer’s pipeline business manager. “Horizontal directional drilling contractors require a drill that can help bridge the gap.”

The machine offers high power for its size, allowing it to be used in urban contracts as well as larger pipeline installations. The drill is self-contained with an onboard operator cabin, mud pump, optional crane and rod stager.
