The huge 688 Bauma 2013 construction equipment exhibition due in April of this year will be the biggest ever at the site in Munich, Germany. This event will pack even more exhibitors onto the city’s former airport site, with a record number of visitors also expected. Some 3,256 exhibitors are booked for the show, which will be the 30th bauma construction machinery event and will cover a record 555,000m2.

Major technical innovations will be highlighted and with the Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emissions regulations due in 2014, various engine manufacturers will be unveiling their developments. This will be a key issue for major equipment manufacturers as they will be able to highlight the technologies and explain the benefits to customers.

Some substantial business developments will also be in focus too. Crane manufacturer 2123 Manitowoc is establishing a major manufacturing joint venture with Chinese firm 1171 Shantui. This will see cranes being built in China and it forms part of Shantui’s project to diversify its product line away from its former reliance on its bulldozer range.

Meanwhile the relationship between 2300 Komatsu and 342 Topcon is being cemented further, with a substantial significance for customers around the world for machine control technologies. This partnership will provide a greater level of competition too for 178 Caterpillar and 2122 Trimble, which have been working closely on machine control technologies for some years. It could also be followed by further agreements between machine control specialists and other manufacturers.

Other major announcements will be made at the show, which will be of interest to all sectors of the construction industry. And it is clear that many new technologies will be shown for the first time.

However, other recent equipment exhibitions have also been major launch venues. World of Concrete, 1260 bC India and 6069 World of Asphalt/World of Aggregates have all been held recently. Industry interest is strong in the latest construction equipment technologies.

While Europe’s construction sector may not have recovered, other areas of the world show considerable promise. Brazil, Indonesia and the Middle East are amongst the healthiest markets at present and it seems that work on key Chinese infrastructure projects will also fuel demand in the country once more.
