6447 Sobratema - which represents Brazilian contractors and manufacturers – announced a new partnership with 688 bauma at CONEXPO/CON-AGG.

The expansion by bauma into Brazil comes as the country’s beleaguered economy is starting to show signs of recovery. Sobratema’s vice president Juan Manuel Altstadt presented graphs to journalists and industry representatives which demonstrated the upturn.

“These slides show falling risk in Brazil, the recovery of investor confidence, showing our exit from the current crisis and the resumption of growth,” said Altstadt. The Brazilian currency, the real, has risen 21% against the dollar since last February.

The 30-year deal between 3995 Messe München and Sobratema sees the two organisations joining forces to deliver 4811 M&T Expo, currently Brazil’s second-largest trade show.

“We want to grow it to become the leading show,” said Stefan Rummel, Messe München’s managing director. “We are aware that the market conditions are not easy, but we are going into this market, like we did in Russia, with a long-term perspective - that’s why we signed a 30-year contract.”

A Brazilian business, Messe München do Brasil Feiras, has been set up in order to create the partnership with Sobratema. The deal covers two other shows: M&T Parts and Services and Construction Expo, both of which will run this year. The next M&T Expo will be in Sao Paulo in June next year.
