SmartROC D60 takes on the tough on the toughest challenges
Atlas Copco’s new SmartROC D60, a heavy-duty surface drill rig, is robust enough and smart enough to tackle aggregate and limestone quarrying.

SmartROC D60, a highly versatile Down-The-Hole rig is designed for drilling 110-178mm holes. It also has a high level of automation for optimum efficiency and consistent productivity, according to 161 Atlas Copco.

The rig’s hole navigation and auto-positioning systems ensure that the rig locates the exact position of each hole and then accurately collars and drills them to precisely the required depth and inclination. This gives a better fragmentation and improves both the loadability and crushability.

Robust standard feed carrying 5m tubes feature built-in sensors in the rod handling cylinders and carousel motor. This enables more reliable rod handling and eliminates the need for inductive sensors. The rig also has Auto Rod Handling as a standard feature to automatically add and then extract the rods when the desired depth is reached.

Low fuel consumption is achieved through intelligent control of the compressor load and engine RPM, resulting in an estimated fuel saving of up to 15% compared to the original FlexiROC D60.

The SmartROC D60 can also be used for toe-hole, dewatering hole and horizontal drilling. Feed maintenance is also easier because the feed can be positioned horizontally.

At worksites where bench stability may be in doubt, the SmartROC D60 can be used together with Atlas Copco’s BenchREMOTE operator station that enables it to be operated at a distance of up to 100m.

Meanwhile, the FlexiROC T20 R (Mk II) has had major upgrades. Product manager Marcus Leü said the “FlexiROC T20 R is the best drill rig in its class of compact, radio remote controlled drill rigs.”

It has a completely new rig control system that consists of electrical and hydraulic components as well as the radio remote control has been installed. By using well proven technology from drill rigs such as FlexiROC T25 R & T30 R, functionality and quality are assured, said Leü.

Other examples of upgrades include a new cylinder feed (BMH 2000) in three lengths, new reinforced drill steel support, new hose routing with three bulkheads, new front facing feed holder and better service access.

The new FlexiROC T20 R has now been equipped with the COP 1435 rock drill. It has almost 30% higher impact energy and 30% higher rotation torque than the previous model. With an impact power of 14kW together with smooth cylinder feed action, the drilling performance has increased by up to 40%.
