Looking to continue its investment in high specification, good performance compact excavators, AJC Civils of Campbeltown, Argyllshire, Scotland, has replaced its five-year-old Volvo ECR88 Plus compact excavator with another new Volvo ECR88 Plus.

AJC Civils proprietor, Jamie McLean, is said to have chosen the new addition to the firm’s plant fleet after being impressed by some of its features, such as hammer shear hydraulics, hydraulic quick fit and hose rupture valves on both boom and dipper arm. McLean is said to have had five good years operating his previous ECR88 Plus, giving him a good return on machine uptime. “Bearing in mind our location, it’s vitally important we operate reliable equipment, and, to be honest, I cannot fault the ECR88 from 2394 Volvo,” he said.

In addition to the standard machine specification, McLean has added individual rubber blocks to the optional steel pads available for the machine. “We take on a whole variety of work here on the Kintyre peninsula from general civil engineering to forestry work which requires a robust undercarriage to road and pathway maintenance which suits the use of rubber tracks, so adding blocks to the tracks has made the machine highly versatile,” he continued.

The Volvo ECR88 Plus is powered by a Volvo 3.4litre low emission engine producing 42kW coupled to a load sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times and smooth control. The machine offers a generous horizontal reach of 7.3M and a lift capacity of 960kg at full reach across the carriage. The ECR88 Plus has a comfortable, spacious cab with a wide uncluttered floor. The instrument panel provides operators with at-a-glance monitoring of all key functions and operator fatigue is reduced through easy-grip, high response joystick control levers. The rubber-mounted cabs reduce whole-body vibration, and external noise minimising the rigours of the jobsite whilst air conditioning with well positioned vents is a standard feature.

McLean’s new ECR88 Plus joins an existing Volvo EC140C excavator which features a heavy duty forestry undercarriage. Volvo Construction Equipment Division markets wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, graders, Volvo Compact Equipment and Volvo road machinery products in the UK.
