ZF looks to the future with HVT and hybrid technology

2304 ZF will focus on efficiency and reducing fuel consumption at this year’s show. The transmission and driveline component manufacturer will present its Ergopower efficiency package that combines the cPower continuously variable transmission with the ZF Hybrid module that should be commercially available in the future. cPower is a hydromechanical variable transmission that combines hydrostatic drive pumps with a mechanical powershift gearbox. Available for use in a range of machines, including wheeled loaders, telehandlers, graders and wheeled excavators, ZF claims that HVT can save up to 25% in fuel costs. The firm’s hybrid system will be able to be used with all forms of ZF transmission and could be incorporated in the transmission or separately in the machine for additional fuel consumption benefits.
Element Six, the synthetic diamond division of DeBeers, has developed a revised design for its D Power road picks, claiming greatly extended working life. The D Power road pick will use a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tip with an improved head design that incorporates tungsten carbide to provide greater protection to the steel pick mount. The company claims that the D Power road pick can deliver up to 40 times the life of a standard carbide pick, providing reduced downtime, increased efficiency and a better
Haver & Boecker is expanding its screen range with the addition of the Ty-Wire hybrid screen deck and of ultrasound screen decks. Ty-Wire hybrid screens use wire that is covered in polyurethane, providing a greater open area than a standard PU screen but with a lifetime that can be 4-6 times longer.
Komatsu used INTERMAT to take the wraps off two new Dash 7 wheeled loaders, badged WA380-7 and WA500-7. With engine emissions being the main driver, the smaller 18-tonne WA380-7 packs 142kW from its EU Stage IIIb engine to deliver improved efficiency and lower fuel consumption. The machine also gets torque converter lock-up with the function operating in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, and gives the loader a 40 km/h forward speed.
High performance and productivity are claimed for the new generation DL200-3 and DL250-3 wheel loaders from Doosan Infracore. Powerful engines and a number of new features help reduce fuel consumption while these machines are also said to be easier to service and offer extended durability. The new cab design provides better visibility and more leg room, while it has a new instrument panel with an integrated VCU (vehicle control unit).
