Wang Yansong, vice president of XCMG, has told of the company’s R&D centre plans in the US
Leading Chinese construction equipment manufacturing firm 2490 XCMG has revealed plans to open a new research and development facility in the United States.

Speaking at 688 Bauma 2013 Wang Yansong, the company’s vice president, said, “In the second half of this year we are planning to build a R&D centre in the United States. It’ll take about half a year to finish construction. It should open in 2014.”

While Yansong would not reveal how much XCMG was investing in the US site, he said it was due to America, along with Germany, having, in his view, the best record of developing new technologies.

XCMG plans to open its Europe HQ in Krefeld, Germany – which will include a prominent research and development centre – later this year.

“We want the products developed [at the R&D centres] to take the lead in the world,” said Yansong.

On developing the firm’s production facilities, Yansong said XCMG’s US$200 million production site in Pouso Alegre, Brazil was due to open in 2014. The firm is also investing in new “production shops” within 4991 Schwing’s production facility in Minnesota, United States.

Schwing, among the world’s leading concrete machinery manufacturers, was purchased by XCMG last year. Yansong said Schwing was working independently within XCMG and is overseen by its own board of directors.
