The work on the construction of the next stretch of the A100 motorway in Berlin, Germany, is about to start. The project is expected to cost €473 million (US$616.72mn) and be completed by 2020.
Roman Brecely, Slovakia’s transport minister, has said that construction of the 2km long motorway tunnel Cebrat near Ruzomberok could be resumed at the beginning of 2017.
But the cost is expected to increase by around €100 million. He added that the government likely will seek European Union funding.
Construction was halted a year ago over concerns about the possibility of landslides and other geological issues. For this reason, the tunnel route may alter and be an additional 1.5km longer.

Work is due to start on an important highway project in Australia’s Queensland State in mid-2020. The second phase of the improvement works for the M1 Pacific Motorway will cost an estimated US$528.3 million (A$749 million). Although the work is only for an 8km stretch, the project is costly as this wide section of the route carries heavy traffic, around 150,000 vehicles/day on average.
