Work is about to get underway on the Maputo-Catembe bridge and the nearby Bela Vista-Boane and Catembe-Ponta do Ouro roads in Maputo province, Mozambique.

Cadmiel Muthemba, Mozambique minister of public works and housing, revealed the imminent start date for the project which will include a bridge spanning around 3km, while the roads will have a combined length of 209km. The roads and bridge will have a total of four tolls. The tolls’ income will be used to finance a loan repayment worth US $681.60 million to the 2834 China Export and Import Bank (ExIm). The two-decade loan features a 4% interest rate and a five-year grace term. The 3366 China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) won the bridge contract valued at $ 725 million. The Chinese firm will also build the project’s roads.
