The US $47.71 million project (VND 995bn), due for completion in 2015, will create a 7km road connecting National Highways 1D and 1A in Quy Nhon town.
Key infrastructure projects planned by the government in Laos will help improve the country’s transport connectivity. Heuangsy Construction is to rebuild a 132km road connecting Xanakham with Hinheup in a deal worth some US$168 million signed with the government. The Nigerian government has completed a project costing US$796.71 million (NGN 126bn) to restore 32 roads covering a combined 2,000kms. The federal government will also upgrade nine railway stations across the country on public private partnerships (PPPs). Mike Onolememen, the Minister of Works in Nigeria, is reported by African media to have told the recent 2013 Ministerial Platform in Abuja, Nigeria that the extensive improvements meant that the country’s roads can no longer be described as “death traps”.
Work on a major US$241.9 million (£150m) road widening scheme in the East Midlands region of England has started near Nottingham. The works will focus on an 11.26km (seven mile) stretch of the A453 between M1 Junction 24 and the A52 Nottingham Ring Road – a major link serving Nottingham, the M1 and East Midlands Airport.
A new bridge is planned for Russia, which will span the Sheksna River in Cherepovets. The bridge will measure 1.13km in length and the project also involves building 7km of connecting roads. The bridge will be built in Russia’s Vologda Region and the work has a pricetag of nearly US$248 million. Because of the river traffic, the bridge will have to be built high enough to allow a clear passage for vessels underneath.
