Work has begun on the Long Van-Long My road in Vietnam's Binh Dinh province.
The US $47.71 million project (VND 995bn), due for completion in 2015, will create a 7km road connecting National Highways 1D and 1A in Quy Nhon town.
A new four lane highway is planned in Vietnam, linking the city of Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province. This 77km highway is due for completion by 2016. Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport of has awarded build-transfer-operate (BOT) contracts worth some US$540.5 million for the the La Son-Tuy Loan Expressway project.
The World Bank is providing funding to Vietnam to upgrade road and bridge links, as well as flood control and sanitation.
The Local Bridge Construction and Road Asset Management operation is worth $385 million. It will improve access to roads, while transport costs for road users in participating provinces will be decreased. A total of 2,174 small bridges will be built or rebuilt to boost links to isolated and impoverished communities in 50 provinces across the country. This project will be worth $245.5
The feasibility study is being handled for a stretch of Vietnam’s North-South highway project. The project is likely to cost US$5.22 billion, of which $2.8 billion will be provided by private funding sources, with the remainder coming from the Vietnamese Government’s sources. The project is being overseen by Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport. Vietnam is seeing significant expansion of its highway network at present, with another three major projects now moving forward and much of the financial backing coming from other Asian nations such as South Korea and Japan. A feasibility study is being carried out for the 94km Nghi Son-Bai Vot expressway and this should be complete by October 2010. The project is expected to cost US$1.04 billion and the expressway will have either six or four lanes, based on Transport Engineering Design's study.
