Innovative water-powered drilling technology developed in Sweden is claimed to drill straighter and deeper than conventional systems. Said to be environmentally friendly, the 7116 Wassara drilling technology has been developed and perfected over 20 years by Swedish iron ore producer 7118 LKAB. Using the Wassara drills has allowed LKAB to drastically cut operating costs. A complete range is now offered and suits applications within ground engineering, dam rehabilitation and exploration drilling. The heart in the system is the world-patented DTH hammer. Using water as power transmission makes the hammer suitable for drilling in most applications and optimal for use in areas where it may be difficult to use other technologies. The use of water for both powering and lubricating the hammer is the secret behind all benefits with this technology.
