Volvo Construction Equipment is confident of strong sales for its brand new articulated hauler range

Volvo Construction Equipment is looking to cement its position in the articulated dump truck (ADT) market with the launch of its new seven model range. High performance coupled with increased driveline efficiency help cut cycle times as well as fuel consumption and the firm is bullish for sales success. “This is the biggest articulated truck launch ever,” said the firm’s president, Melker Jernberg.

Volvo CE says that these new ADTs offer a range of major gains over the models being replaced. And the new range also includes an all-new size class, the 45tonne capacity A50, which slots into the range between the proven A45 and A60 models. “It’s a brand new size class for us,” Jernberg commented.
The new transmissions help to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% and coupled with the faster cycle times, this should help lower the cost/tonne for customers according to the firm.

The sophisticated hydraulic suspension is fitted as standard on the larger machines in the range and available as an option on the smaller models. This provides a smoother ride for the operator, as well as reducing wear and tear on the machine.

Safety is always a key feature for Volvo CE and there are several improvements for the new generation trucks. These include a bigger cab entrance for the operator, new hand rails, additional lighting around the machine and better camera systems. This last is a key feature, with a camera that shows forward view if the speed drops below 10km/h. In addition, the smart camera system shows the way ahead on the in-cab display automatically when the truck is climbing a steep slope and also switches automatically to a rear view when the operator starts reversing. Another camera shows the articulation joint so that the operator can see if anyone is in the danger spot.

This new launch follows in the wake of others from the firm, which has upgraded 35% of its range in recent months.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s new Tier 4 Final/Stage IV-compliant L250H wheeled loader has been designed to perform heavy tasks with better performance, safety and fuel economy levels using the manufacturer’s OptiShift technology. In North America the L250H is ideally suited to working with on-highway trucks, and the L250H will load a 22.7tonne tri-axle on-highway truck in just two passes. That’s two full buckets for one full truck says Volvo.

  • Increased output, productive ADTs and excavators

Productive performers provide increased output for customers in the loading and hauling sector of the earthmoving market - Mike Woof writes. Loading and hauling machines play key roles in earthmoving operations, with the excavator and ADT combination proving both versatile and productive. While machines such as scrapers may be more efficient in specific earthmoving applications, these do not offer the versatility of the excavator and ADT combination, reducing utilisation.

A wide range of innovative earthmover solutions is now coming to market - Mike Woof writes Generally with major construction equipment exhibitions timed for the second quarter of each year, this is when manufacturers will roll out their latest earthmoving solutions. However 2017 has turned out to be something of an anomaly, with the major firms continuing to unveil new models. Firms have introduced new wheeled loaders, excavators, and dozers, although arguably, some of the most interesting developments
