Vietnam is seeing significant expansion of its highway network at present, with another three major projects now moving forward and much of the financial backing coming from other Asian nations such as South Korea and Japan.

A feasibility study is being carried out for the 94km Nghi Son-Bai Vot expressway and this should be complete by October 2010. The project is expected to cost US$1.04 billion and the expressway will have either six or four lanes, based on Transport Engineering Design's study.

Meanwhile the Hanoi-Lang Son expressway will benefit from $900 million of financing from the 943 Asian Development Bank (ADB). The 130km road will connect Nhu Nguyet Bridge in Bac Ninh province with Lang Son province's Huu Nghi border. The 1290 Export-Import Bank of Korea and ADB plan to combine forces to provide an additional $200 million loan for the project.

A main road project in Vinh Phuc province's Me Linh district will benefit from Official Development Assistance funding from the government of Japan. The funding is being supplied through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The $120 million will be used to offer supportive services for investors as well as to fund infrastructure developments in Phu Yen township. It will also be used to improve the provincial's ability to attract and manage investments.
