Vietnam sees road safety improvement

Vietnam has seen steady improvement in road safety, with the number of traffic related fatalities dropping below 9,000 in 2014. This is the first time the country’s fatality rate has dropped below 9,000 for a number of years. Official data shows that some provinces have successfully lowered down the number of traffic accidents by over 20% in 2014, compared with the previous year. Vietnam has seen steady improvement in road safety, with the number of traffic related fatalities dropping below 9,000 in 2014. This is the first time the country’s fatality rate has dropped below 9,000 for a number of years. Official data shows that some provinces have successfully lowered down the number of traffic accidents by over 20% in 2014, compared with the previous year. In all provinces or cities 10 reported sharp declines; Da Nang, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Ca Mau, Nam Dinh, Cao Bang, Ninh Thuan, Bac Kan, Ha Giang and Quang Ninh. Traffic related fatalities were the highest meanwhile in Ben Tre, Kien Giang, Vinh Long, Kon Tum and Quang Tri.

In 2014, the number of crashes totalled 25,322. Of these, 8,996 resulted in fatalities and over 24,400 were injured. The National Traffic Safety Committee said that the number of crashes fell 13.8% from reported crashes in 2013. The number of road related fatalities fell by 4% and the number of injuries dropped by 17.2% compared with the previous year.

    Vietnam has seen a drop in road traffic crashes in the period from January-April 2016 compared with the same period in 2015. According to Vietnam’s National Traffic Safety Committee, the number of road crashes fell by 12.6% to 6,620 during this period. Collisions accounted for 3,190 of Vietnam’s road crashes, which resulted in 1,945 serious injuries and caused 2,790 fatalities during the January-April 2016 period.
