Elevated highways stretching 34.5km in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City may be developed at US$2.68 billion. The Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport are tweaking the project in a move to lure investors. None have come forward at present.
There is a lot of work to do on Bulgarian roads, but the government has plans to increase the length of highways built each year as Krasimir Krastanov reports. Bulgarian roads with a pavement make up 98.4% of all the country's roads, while 92.5% of them have an asphalt surface and 82.8% of them are able to carry 10tonnes/axle.
A 198km stretch of highway in northwestern Vietnam is to be upgraded. The route forms part of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Kunming-Hi Phòng Transport Corridor. A loan worth US$188 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help pay for the work. The highway runs through a mountainous region and is important to Vietnam as it provides a connection between Hà Ni and China's Yunnan province. Vietnam is considering a major tunnel construction project that would boost connectivity. The project would be for a 1.3km tunnel running underneath the sea at Vietnam’s Cua Luc Bay. This would boost transport for Quang Ninh city and has an estimated project cost of around US$346.5 million.
