Elevated highways stretching 34.5km in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City may be developed at US$2.68 billion. The Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport are tweaking the project in a move to lure investors. None have come forward at present.
A key need for infrastructure upgrades is required in Vietnam during 2012. Official estimates suggest that some US$499.4 million is required to repair roads and upgrade or replace bridge links in the country. The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam says that there are 277 ageing bridges which need repairs and the country’s Transport Ministry has been urged to prioritise the issue.
Work on the new North-South Highway in Vietnam is now underway, with preparatory work having commenced in 2016 and construction scheduled for completion in 2020. The project is being carried out under the PPP model, with initial funding being provided by a system of Government Bonds. The project is expected to cost US$2.43 billion to complete. Talks between the Chinese Development Bank and the Serbian Government could result in Chinese funding for Serbian highway projects. The Danube coast project and the Corridor 11 highway project have been identified. Some €400-€450 million of Chinese financing could be made available to Serbia for highway projects following the most recent series of discussions. Serbia’s Ministry for Transport is also in talks with Chinese partners for the construction of a series of highway projects.
A major programme of infrastructure investment in Mexico is seeing the country developing 46 highway projects that are due for completion in 2018.
