Elevated highways stretching 34.5km in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City may be developed at US$2.68 billion. The Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport are tweaking the project in a move to lure investors. None have come forward at present.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is to lend US$410 million to Vietnam for the construction of the Second Southern Highway that links Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The arterial highway will consist of two cable-stayed bridges measuring a total of 5km, and 26km of interconnecting roads and associated access. Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam looks set to benefit from 14 infrastructure projects costing a total of US$9.44 billion. One of the key projects will be to improve and repair Luong Dinh Cua Street while another is for the building of the new Ha Noi Expressway-Eastern Ring Road link road. Loan facilities are being provided by the Sai Gon-Ha Noi Commercial Bank (SHB) to Phu My Construction (PMC). Both Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and Hanoi in Vietnam are to benefit from new transport infrastructure. For HCMC, as much as $39.6 billion will be required to deliver all of the 85 transport infrastructure projects being planned. Severe congestion and flooding are frequent problems causing major traffic hold-ups. Of the 85 transport projects needed for the city, 15 are for the construction of new roads while 55 are for road/bridge works. A further eight are for rail links and seven for waterways.
