Elevated highways stretching 34.5km in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City may be developed at US$2.68 billion. The Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport are tweaking the project in a move to lure investors. None have come forward at present.
Vietnam intends to set up an electronic network that will charge vehicle drivers to enter the centre of Ho Chi Minh City. Congestion is a major problem in the city and the authorities wish to help tackle the issue and allow better traffic flow. The electronic congestion charging system will be installed on roads at Districts 10, 3 and 1 and Ho Chi Minh City will the first in Vietnam to adopt such an approach.
Funding has been found for a new beltway project in Vietnam. The work will be financed jointly by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). The two have signed agreements for loans worth close to US$160 million for the project. ADB will provide a $12.58 million loan to finance preparation works for Beltway No3 in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. More than US$617 million (VND 13 trillion) will be required by Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City for road construction and repairs in 2014, according to a national newspaper quoting the city's Department of Transport.
