The Danish Road Directorate, Vejdirektoratet, has launched a tender worth US$80.3 million for the third and final stage of the Kalundborg Motorway.

Construction on the 8km stage will be further divided, into four sub-stages. The section includes, apart from a new road, the relocation of some roads and two ramps for a new junction facility as well as a large fauna underpass, a road bridge and two pedestrian bridges. The work is included in the country’s Infrastructure Plan 2035.

In September 2019, the Roads Directorate opened the entire second stage of the Kalundborg Motorway – a new 6.5km section that now runs south of Regstrup, between Kvanløse and Dramstrup. According to Sweco, which was initially responsible for tender design, it involved expansion of around 1.5km of Skovvejen into a four-lane motorway as well as construction of 5km of new four-lane motorway south of Regstrup. Apart from a new road, the second stage involved the design and implementation of connecting ramps, structures, noise screens and road lighting and cutting roads and paths.

According to the Sweco website, during the detailed design, Sweco served as lead consultant to MJ Eriksson. Sweco worked with a number of design packages using 3D CAD models and BIM workflows, so that the path through the Danish Road Directorate’s comment process was as quick as possible.
