US$7.6bn spent on new Polish roads

PLN 26.4billion (US$7.6billion) was spent on new roads in Poland in 2011, according to a report prepared by the Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). The investment resulted in the construction of 205.5km of motorways and 62.2km of dual carriageways.

PLN 26.4billion (US$7.6billion) was spent on new roads in Poland in 2011, according to a report prepared by the 3519 Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). The investment resulted in the construction of 205.5km of motorways and 62.2km of dual carriageways. The value of road tenders which were resolved in 2011 reached PLN 8billion (US$ 2.32billion), while the value of 3287 EU funds exceeded PLN 10billion (US$2.9billion).

    Strabag consortium has signed a contract for construction of a 15.2km section of the A1 motorway between Wozniki and Pyrzowice. Completion of the section that will connect Pyrzowice with Czestochowa is due by the end of 2018. It is the first of four contracts signed for construction of the motorway. Strabag’s offer is believed to be around €144 million, while the budget set by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), was set just over €200 million. Meanwhile, the S6 dual car
