China's car rental market is set to record a 17% increase in revenue during 2015 to US$6.33 billion (CNY 39bn) compared to 2010, according to Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. The country's top rental firm, China Auto Rental, is expected to be offering more than 100,000 cars by 2018. The firm recently launched a strategic plan to 2018. China is still moving ahead with plans that will give it the world's biggest highway system. Patrick Smith reports. As China's economy grows even more, keeping the country on the move has become a priority for the government. While the country has made great strides over the past decade in improving its infrastructure, the number of vehicles has also increased rapidly, and in some instances restrictions have been placed on them.
In China’s Sichuan Province the city of Mianyang intends to invest over US$1 billion in its transportation network during 2012. The investment will be split between rural road construction, national-provincial trunk highway construction and highway construction. The plans also call for 800km of rural roads and 200km roads between townships and counties. China’s Hebei Province is planning a series of transport infrastructure improvements during 2019. Highway construction will be amongst the works being prioritised under the plan, which has a budget of over US$8 billion. In all, 1,172km of highway will be built in the province under the programme of works. During 2019, work will commence on six new highway stretches with a total length of 332km. A 217km stretch of highway under construction already will be opened to traffic in 2019, while work is continuing
