The US has seen a reduction in crashes and road deaths for 2023 compared to 2022

Road safety in the US is seeing a slight improvement for the January-September 2023 period according to the latest official data. Fatalities dropped 4.5% for this period compared with the same period in 2022.

The data comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The collated information shows that there were 30,435 road fatalities for the January-September 2023 period, a drop of 1,445 from the 31,880 recorded for the January-September period in 2022.

However, a note of caution is that the road death rate for the January-September 2023 period was still higher than that seen in 2019, before the global COVID 19 pandemic.
