U.S construction machinery exports up 43% in 2011

American construction equipment exports rose by 43% in 2011 to US$23.5billion. American construction equipment exports rose by 43% in 2011 to US$23.5billion.

The 1100 Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) says it is encouraged by the significant rise on 2010 exports, which follow on from a 28% increase in exports in 2010 compared to 2009.

“Export sales continue to help U.S. construction equipment manufacturers stay open for business and sustain American jobs, especially with the domestic construction sector still recovering,” stated Al Cervero, AEM vice president construction sector.

The AEM and its I Make America campaign is pushing for export-friendly policies that create and sustain American jobs. These include free trade agreements such as the U.S.-Korea FTA being implemented, which the AEM says will eliminate export duties on about 80% of U.S. industrial products and about 67% of U.S. farm-related products.

The leading manufacturing organisation is also calling for Congressional reauthorisation of the 1290 Export-Import Bank, with an increased exposure cap so more companies can benefit from its services. The Export-Import Bank is self-sustaining and focuses on small to medium-size businesses.
