US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
The US-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) has revealed data showing that exports of construction equipment dropped 25% in 2013 compared to the previous year. The exports of machines were worth some US$$20 billion in all. The data comes from the US Commerce Department and is being highlighted in the AEM’s trend reports. According to the information, all world regions recorded declines in imports of construction machines.
Roadtec Shuttle buggies are now being used on major road projects in Poland. This follows a decision made by the Polish road authority, GDDKIA, to use material transfer vehicles on highway projects. The need for a smooth running surface is paramount on highways as in Poland these tolled links can allow speed limits of up to 140km/h. This is why GDDKIA decided the use of a material transfer vehicle was crucial to optimising mix delivery into pavers, so as to help optimise surface finish.
