US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins
Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic development agency the Central Development Working Party approved six projects worth US$865 million, including the China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) Raikot section Phase-1.
The Raikot section is the 120km Havalian-Thakot stretch and alone is worth around $830 million, according to a report from The Nation newspaper. The agency’s approval is for land acquisition, affected properties compensation and relocation of utilities to give the road a throughway.

Plans are in hand for transport expansion in China. This includes major works in the Chinese provinces of Hubei and Hebei as well as the city of Yibin. In Hubei province the infrastructure programme calls for 6,500km of highway to be complete by the end of 2015. Hubei Province has spent US$17.07 billion in the first three years of the 12th Five-Year Period (2011-2015) on highway construction. In Kosovo, work is pushing ahead of schedule on the Route 7 highway to link capital Pristina with the Albanian border. Sections of the 120km highway have been opened, one year ahead of schedule. An official opening of several sections of the highway has been carried out by Kosovan leaders, including Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, President Atifete Jahjaga, and members of Parliament, along with Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and US representatives Eliot Engel (D- NY) and Gary Peters (D-MI) joined thousan
Mozambique’s Maputo-Catembe Bridge is due to open shortly and will become Africa’s longest suspension bridge. The 3km bridge will form part of the road connection between Maputo, Mozambique’s capital, and Catembe. The bridge is costing over US$700 million, with much of the necessary funding being provided by the Export Import Bank of China. The new bridge will improve transport and reduce journey times for drivers, who currently have to rely on ferries travelling between Maputo and Catembe.
