US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
China’s Anhui and Jiangsu Provinces are developing transport infrastructure with a series of major projects. In Anhui Province plans have been drawn up for road and highway improvements as well as upgrades to other categories of transport infrastructure over the period from 2017 to 2021. The road expansion programme will see Anhui Province increase its highway network by 1,157km to 5,700km during this period.
A unit of China State Construction International Holdings (China State Construction) has signed a US$617.4 million (HKD 4.79bn) contract with the Highways Department of Hong Kong. The company will build a 150m long slip road tunnel beneath the Victoria Park Road and the northern area of Victoria Park. A 300m twin box tunnel section will also be built by China State Construction under the seabed of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, as part of the 4.5km Central-Wan Chai Bypass development.
Plans are being set out for an important new highway link in the CIS. This new link will connect the M-5 and M-7 highways, close to the city of Ufa and the project is expected to cost US$1.12 billion to carry out. The work will require the construction of a tunnel stretch carrying four traffic lanes, as well as two highway sections and an overpass in the city itself.
