Official data for the year ending June 2024 reveals that UK road casualties dropped compared to the previous year.

There were 1,607 road deaths for the year ending in June 2024, a drop of 2% compared to the year ending June 2023. However, there were 29,540 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties, little change compared to the year ending June 2023. But there was sign of improvement across casualties of all severities, which dropped to 128,920, a decline of 4% compared to the year ending June 2023.

The data shows that since 2014, there has been a gradual downward trend in the number of KSI casualties in Great Britain with a notable decrease in the years affected by COVID-19.

The biggest reduction in fatalities was for pedal cyclists, which showed a decline of 5% for the year ending June 2024 when compared to the year ending June 2023. Cyclists also saw the largest drop for all casualty types in this same period, with a fall of 6%.

Of note however is that 75% of road crash fatalities and 61% of road crash casualties of all types for the time period were of males.
