UAE sees road safety gain

Road safety is improving in the UAE according to official data. The latest statistics from the Traffic Coordination General at the Interior Ministry of the UAE show reductions in deaths and injuries caused by road crashes in the January to October 2015 period. The data shows deaths on the UAE’s roads have dropped 4.9% while serious injuries have fallen by 5.1% over the same period. Road safety is improving in the UAE according to official data. The latest statistics from the Traffic Coordination General at the Interior Ministry of the UAE show reductions in deaths and injuries caused by road crashes in the January to October 2015 period. The data shows deaths on the UAE’s roads have dropped 4.9% while serious injuries have fallen by 5.1% over the same period. The number of deaths resulting from traffic crashes posted in the 10 months under review amounted to 560, compared with 589 for the same period in 2014. The total number of injuries registered in the period under review was 5,605, compared to 5,909 in the same period for 2014. The number of traffic crashes reported in the January to October 2015 declined 3% from 4,058 in the same period in 2014, to 3,935. The major cause of crashes in the period under review was from sudden swerving, accounting for 19.44% of the total number of incidents. Failure to maintain a safe distance between vehicles came in second and resulted in 13.01% of crashes.
