U-turn on Slovakian motorway tender

The Italian-Slovak consortium of HANT BA DS and INC has been excluded by the Slovak national motorway company NDS from the tender for the construction of a 15.25km stretch of the Hubova-Ivachvova D1 motorway in Slovakia. The Italian-Slovak consortium of 6007 HANT BA DS and 6008 INC has been excluded by the Slovak national motorway company 5891 NDS from the tender for the construction of a 15.25km stretch of the Hubova-Ivachvova D1 motorway in Slovakia.

Slovak company HANT BA DS has asked NDS to revaluate its decision as it claims that its offer fulfils all tender conditions.

The consortium offered the lowest price of US$259.44mn (€207.50mn) excluding VAT. Italian partner INC claims that exclusion from the tender was unfounded and said it would turn to all possible legal instruments, including European institutions, for assistance.

The estimated cost of the D1 motorway construction works is €465.71million.The second lowest bid, worth €215.38million, was offered by the consortium of Slovak firms TuCon and 6009 Inzinierske Stavby, followed by another Italian-Slovak consortium of 3149 Impregilo and Duha with €224.9million.

Building works should take three and a half years and the project could be completed by the end of 2015.

    Bidding is strong for the works to construct two bypasses in Slovakia. The road links are the 14.5km long northern Kosice bypass and the 8km Presov bypass. Both bypasses form part of the D1 motorway. The estimated value of both projects is nearly €580 million. Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS opened the bids for the Presov by-pass before the end of 2015. A consortium comprising local firm Duha and Salini Impregilo is amongst the bidders for the work.

    Slovakia's transport ministry says the 7.5km Visnove tunnel near Zilina, part of the D1 motorway, will be delayed by two years to open in 2022. The recent announcement came as the ministry agreed to an extension to the construction permit held by Salini Impregilo for work on the twin-tube tunnel. The design-and-build contract worth about €410 million was assigned to the Salini Impregilo-led joint venture DUHA in 2014 by the National Highway Company NDS.
