Two deals for Vietnam highway

Work to upgrade the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen section of Vietnam's Highway 3 will now be split into two sub-projects.

Work to upgrade the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen section of Vietnam's Highway 3 will now be split into two sub-projects. The Ministry of Transport (MoT) suggested dividing the project to improve efficiency and this has now been approved. The Hanoi section will be carried out under the build-transfer arrangement while the northern Thai Nguyen section will be managed under build-operate-transfer model. A proposal to widen the highway to four lanes as part of the upgrade has been proposed and would cost US$207 million but has still to be approved.

    A new 2.85km bridge is being built in Vietnam to span the Red River at Hung Ha. The Thai Ha Bridge will connect Thai Binh Province and Ha Nam Province with the Ninh Binh highway in Cau Gie Province. The link will be constructed under the build-operate-transfer model and the concession deal means that from 18th October 2016, investors will collect toll revenues from the bridge for 19 years and two months. The highway itself will feature four lanes with a maximum travel speed of 80km/h.

    The Japanese SE Group is working on a new road project in Vietnam. The 25km highway is costing some US$476 million to construct, with some 60% of the funding coming from the JBIC Bank and SE Group providing around 20%. The rest of the funding will be provided by official development assistant capital. This new road will provide a link from the city of Halong in Vietnam's Quang Ninh province to the Hanoi-Haiphong highway project.

The US$522.7 million project will see a 100km section of the Hapur Bypass being widened, so that it will feature three lanes in either direction. This section of the route is from Moradabad to Hapur and the work will be carried out by IRB Infrastructure Developers. The contract was awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the build, operate and transfer model.
