The authorities in the Russian city of St Petersburg plan to invest heavily in transport infrastructure. A budget of US$59.24 billion in all has been projected for the necessary work. Final approval has to be given for the budget at this stage.
A report from the St Petersburg Administration suggests that up to 18% of the city’s roads are currently unfit for use. Plans were made in the third quarter of 2012 to repair about 33% of these damaged road links in the second quarter of 2013. The official data reveals that the city currently has 56,500km of roads. The planned budget is for US$161.63 million for repair works to 3,400km of the city’s roads in 2013.

Avtodor is Russia’s leading company in the field of development of national road infrastructure, while this is one of the largest and most controversial projects in Russian road building in recent years.

Russian state company Avtodor is to announce a tender for a new €3.42 billion (RUB 149.1 billion) section of Moscow-St. Petersburg toll highway. The new section will be between the road's 334th and 543rd kilometres, which passes through the Tver (Central) and the Novgorod (North-West) regions. Avtodor will hold a Dutch auction. Preliminary design work for the Eastern High-Speed Radius construction project in St Petersburg has been completed. The project calls for the construction of a highway and a bridge between Fayansovaya Street and Zolnaya Street. The project will require an investment of some US$2.67 billion and is expected to be funded through private financial sources.
