Transport for London shortlist for up to US$3bn work contracts

Transport for London (TfL) has shortlisted ten contractors for a road maintenance framework that could be worth as much as US$3billion over eight years. The framework is split into four contracts and could cover all London roads from 2013. TfL said the framework would provide cost savings and other efficiencies. 2387 Transport for London (TfL) has shortlisted ten contractors for a road maintenance framework that could be worth as much as US$3billion over eight years.

The framework is split into four contracts and could cover all London roads from 2013. TfL said the framework would provide cost savings and other efficiencies. The final contracts will be awarded before the end of 2012.

    Contractor FM Conway will carry out major resurfacing works in the UK. The £56 million deal is with East Sussex County Council, operating as specialist surfacing sub-contractor to the Costain CH2M joint venture. This is a seven year deal involving surfacing as well as maintenance and patching work. FM Conway will be using its novel Enviro range of asphalt base and binder products for the road rebuilding work, reducing the quantities of primary aggregates required in the job.

    The UK’s National Infrastructure Commission has shortlisted five companies including Aecom and Arup in a competition for ideas to make roads fit for driverless cars. The five companies were chosen from 81 entries submitted to the Roads for the Future initiative led by the roads authority Highways England and Innovate UK, a government agency that encourages research and innovation in many sectors.
