5962 Topcon Europe Positioning says that its new HiPer V system features the firm’s patented Vanguard technology. This offers customers the choice of GPS and GLONASS signals, as well as Galileo when operationally available. It also includes a variety of choices of internal radio, cellular and Bluetooth communication options, as well as a sophisticated power supply. An important feature of the HiPer V is the Vanguard ASIC chip. The company claims that the architecture behind this new chipset leads the market, and will provide support for future solutions.

The Vanguard technology offers efficient satellite signal tracking and performance. This new system provides Universal Tracking technology for 226 channels, allowing it to track all current and upcoming GNSS constellations.

According to the firm, the Vanguard GNSS technology uses the most advanced GNSS signal tracking and processing architecture available. The firm says that because its channels are not pre-programmed to receive only one specific signal or a type of signal, users receive the maximum number of signals at any given time. Universal Tracking uses a single receiver channel to automatically select and track any satellite signal. In addition, the Universal Tracking system will select the best combination of available signals based on health, geometry and application, providing accuracy, speed of initialisation and fixing. As a result, the company claims that HiPer V will work at places where other receivers will not, while delivering high accuracy.

Key technologies include the Quartz Lock Loop that provides effective signal processing in heavy vibration applications, Universal Tracking channels for all in view tracking, and Intelligent Tracking Optimisation to select the best combination of satellites. Other features include the rugged, durable magnesium alloy housing, the choice of communication options, and a long life rechargeable battery as well as a low weight.

The firm also recently launched the new HiPer SR, an advanced GNSS RTK receiver based around Vanguard Technology, with a compact and lightweight integrated precision receiver. Also introduced recently was the B110 with Vanguard, a compact board capable of providing scalable positioning from sub-meter DGPS to sub-centimetre RTK positioning. The Vanguard technology is now being integrated into additional Topcon and 1090 Sokkia GNSS receivers.

Other benefits of the Vanguard technology include: a compact system-on-chip, multicore design with small integration footprint; L1/L2/L5 triple-frequency signal support; L-Band signal demodulator; multi-constellation support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Compass; comprehensive peripheral interface support; reduced power consumption to prolong battery life.
