Toll road expansion plan for South Africa

South Africa is planning to increase the number of toll roads in the country in a bid to improve transport connections. The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has announced a plan to build new links with the N12 running from Kimberley to Johannesburg, the N3 connecting Durban and Pietermaritzburg and the N1 linking Kroonstad and Winburg. These projects come in addition to work on the Musina N1 Ring Road and the N1 Botlokwa Interchange.

    South Africa is opening the tendering process for a series of road construction works. In all 12 projects are being planned for upgrades on the N2 and N3 routes, with a total value of nearly US$562 million. Seven of the tenders will be for the N3 connecting Johannesburg with Durban. The aim is to reduce congestion at peak periods and shorten journey times for drivers. The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has plans for $2.7 billion of road improvement works to upgrade key links over coming years.
