  • Shantui secures UN supply agreement

    Construction machines from Shantui are now being supplied to the United Nations (UN), for use in Africa. The machines are being used by UN peace-keeping forces in Africa, having passed the stringent testing and performance requirements of the UN for harsh road condition use and special applications. The deal came following the necessary procurement certification from the UN. Shantui’s supply deal is for machines including military-level bulldozers, wheeled loaders and road machinery.
  • Terex merger partner Konecranes plans efficiency savings

    Finnish port crane manufacturer Konecranes, which plans to merge with Terex Corporation, said it will make annual cost savings of €25 million by the end of 2017. The company said that while merger talks with US manufacturer Terex continue, it needs to make efficiency savings. Around half of the savings will happen before the end of this year, according to a written statement. Plant down-sizing and closures are a possibility, as well as some streamlining of its product portfolio and its supply chain.
  • Kenya elevated highway works to start in January 2013

    Works on an elevated highway in Kenya are due to begin in January 2013. The initial US$200million cost of the project will be funded by the World Bank. The 12km stretch above the present Waiyaki Way and Mombasa Road-Uhuru Highway is due to be completed in 2015.

    Shantui’s SR12-5 road roller is the Chinese company’s most exported construction machine model and will be part of its large exhibition at INTERMAT. Said by Shantui to be designed mainly for use in mid-sized compaction duties, it features DANA hydraulic control systems, and comes with a single front-mounted drum.
