Thailand’s giant road spend

Thailand’s government is planning to spend nearly US$25 billion in ten years from 2016 on overhauling Thailand’s road and rail transport infrastructure.

Thailand’s government is planning to spend nearly US$25 billion in ten years from 2016 on overhauling Thailand’s road and rail transport infrastructure. A total of $24.74 billion (THB 800 billion) will be allocated by the Transport Ministry to the works which include developing inter-city highways, local roads and a comprehensive rail system. Work on the routes carried out by the Expressway Authority of Thailand will be included.

    The Highways Department (HD) in Thailand is considering an extension on two elevated roads from Bangkok to maintain its traffic links with the South, North and Northeast should the capital be hit with floods. The HD would extend Boromratchonnanee Elevated Road from Phutthamonthon Sai 2 Road to Phetkasem Road to make sure that traffic to the South does not face any disruption caused by floods in the future.   • Russia is setting out a new road development budget

    Russia is setting out plans for development of its transport network, with road construction and maintenance amongst the areas being prioritised. The new plan will run from 2016-2021 and has been established by the Transport Ministry. In all the country intends to spend close to US$90 billion developing transportation.
