Thailand highways department expedites key port road expansion

The Highways Department in Thailand has expedited work to enlarge the road leading to Laem Chabang port. The government wants to increase the road to 14 lanes at a cost of US$83.83 million (THB 2.50bn). Enlarging the road is expected to dramatically reduce traffic congestion at the port. In addition, new roads to connect with major roads leading to the port are being built.

    The Highways Department (HD) in Thailand is considering an extension on two elevated roads from Bangkok to maintain its traffic links with the South, North and Northeast should the capital be hit with floods. The HD would extend Boromratchonnanee Elevated Road from Phutthamonthon Sai 2 Road to Phetkasem Road to make sure that traffic to the South does not face any disruption caused by floods in the future.
