Materials testing equipment manufacturer 1417 Tecnotest has launched a powerful new touch-screen display unit, Touchtronic.

“We were not the first to introduce the touch screen, but this has given us the opportunity to see what other firms provide and to enhance it,” said Tecnotest overseas and regional European sales manager Patricia Sarson.

Windows XP-based, the Touchtronic is basically a small PC. “It has all the powerful function of a standard PC,” said Tecnotest engineer Andrew Nardelli. “And the speed and technical specification of a PC.”

The PC can be connected to a company’s computer network, which means that a laboratory manager can view tests remotely from another part of the building.

Currently Touchtronic, which is available with four or eight channels, has been developed for Tecnotest’s compression testing machines. The next step will be to introduce it for soil testing machines, which is planned by the end of the year. Asphalt machines will follow.
