Taiwan road safety a focus for concern

Taiwan’s road safety is a focus for concern, given the high number of crashes on the country’s network. The National Road Traffic Safety Commission of Taiwan has estimated that there were over 400,000 deaths and serious injuries on the country’s road network in 2017. This compares with a figure of 375,000 for 2013.

    The US is seeing improvements in road safety overall, with a drop in road crash statistics for 2011.     A very different road safety picture is emerging in two European nations, France and Germany. In France, the road fatality rate fell 4.7% for the month of June 2012, compared with the same period in the previous year. Some 320 people were killed on French roads in June 2012. In May 2012, the road death rate in France was only 0.9% lower than for the same period in the previous year.
