The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
Amey has been awarded the €235 million (£200 million) Area 8 contract by the Highways Agency. The contract involves the upgrade and maintenance of major A roads and motorways in parts of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. Starting on 1 April 2014, The Asset Support Contract (ASC) is the 5th to be awarded by the agency to date. ASCs have been designed to help the Agency cut road maintenance costs by a quarter by 2015.
International interest is strong in Colombia’s infrastructure expansion. Five foreign firms are competing in the country’s 4G road tender process. Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), Sinohydro, Sacyr, Tradeco and ICA are amongst the companies competing for 10 contracts worth some US$5.88 billion. A highway project worth US$153.5 million in India’s Tamil Nadu State will be handled by IRB Infrastructure Developers. The same firm will also build a 29km stretch of NH 45A between Viluppuram and Puducherry. A 38km section of NH 45A between Puducherry and Poondiyankuppam meanwhile will be built by Oriental Structural Engineers. These three contracts were all awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
