The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
Bidding is healthy for key road projects in Romania. Four companies and one consortium have submitted bids for the modernisation of the DN18 national road linking Baia Mare with Iacobeni.
Political controversy is looming with the revelation that Romania's National Road Company (CNADNR) has spent some €1.5 billion on upgrading 2,800 km of roads since 2004.
A consortium led by the European construction group Strabag has signed the €178 million contract to build the 10.4km long section of the R2 expressway between Pstruša and Kriván in Slovakia.
The R2 expressway runs through the valley of the Slatina River in central Slovakia and links the cities of Pstruša and Kriván.
