The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
The project to build Zimbabwe’s crucial north-south highway link is facing delays, with the contract now having to be re-awarded. The tender was originally awarded to an Austrian firm, Geiger International, but with progress having proven very slow this has been withdrawn. The deal has not yet been re-awarded. But the Zimbabwe Government is at present in discussions with the second bidder from the original tender process, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Group Limited (AFECC), over the contract.

Isolux has won a contract to construct and exploit a 34km stretch of highway between Bloomington and Martinsville on Interstate 69 (section 5), which crosses Indiana state in the US.
The company becomes the fourth Spanish infrastructure group to have a presence in the US highway market. The exploitation of the highway will be for 35 years, under the terms of the deal, which will involve an investment of around US$325 million. Spanish contractor FCC has been awarded a contract to carry out key road upgrade works in Nicaragua. The €32 million project will see improvements being carried out on the 39km route connecting Los Chinamos with El Ayote.
Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS has put out to tender two sections of the D1 motorway near Presov and Kosice.
Both tenders have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, with bid submission deadlines set for June 29.
The first section is the south-west D1 by-pass of Presov at nearly 8km long, including the construction of a 2km duel-tube road tunnel Presov and estimated to cost €443.4 million.
