The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
The contract for Italy’s new Pedemontana Lombarda highway is likely to be handled by a consortium headed by Austrian contractor Strabag. The agreement will be finalised in September 2011. The consortium has a provisional deal for design and construction of the €2.3 billion 75km highway, which will connect Bergamo to Milan Malpensa airport, bypassing Milan. A consortium of BAM-PGGM and HABAU has been appointed preferred bidder for extension of Germany’s A10-A24 motorway from Neuruppin to Pankow, near Brandenburg.
The public-private partnership deal covering nearly 65km is worth around €1 billion over the 30 years of the contract, according to infrastructure project management company DEGES.
Transport infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from loans worth a total of €300 million. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are providing the loans, which will be used to improve and upgrade existing road links and also to update Moldova’s national railway company, CFM. The road improvements will be targeted at 290km of roads in the north and central areas of Moldova.
