The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.

State Minister in Charge of Transport Dr Alex. Nzahabwanimana said the contract for the US$54 million project has already been awarded to German construction company Strabag International.
Italian contractor Astaldi has begun drilling two parallel tunnels as part of its S7 dual carriageway project in Poland.
Each tunnel, between Naprawa and Skomielna Biala and under the Lubon Maly massif, will each be just over 2km long.
Astaldi, based in Rome, won the three-year S7 dual carriageway project worth around €225 million in 2016
Work includes 38 bridges and viaducts and three motorway services. There will also be 25km of access roads and two junctions.

The contract to build a new highway bypass and interchange in Stockholm has been awarded by the Swedish transport authority, Trafikverket. The work will be carried out by Züblin Scandinavia, the Swedish subsidiary of Ed Züblin, in partnership with STRABAG subsidiary STRABAG Sverige. The work involves building a 950m long section of highway, including a complex interchange and is worth some €76 million. The Austrian publicly listed construction group Strabag posted a record year 2016, with an order backlog at a record-high of €14.8 billion. Thomas Birtel, chief executive of Strabag, said that 2016 was a “satisfactory and eventful” year for the company. “We managed to acquire the minority interest in our subsidiary [civil engineering company] Ed Züblin in Stuttgart and of the remaining stake in Raiffeisen evolution, now called Strabag Real Estate.” Both companies are now wholly owned by Strabag.
