Chinese contractor 5544 Sinohydro is to start a road construction project in Moldova worth €48 million. It is likely to be the first of several Chinese companies to carry out work in the country.
The Tender Board of Oman has floated, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, a prequalification tender for building Section 2 of the Daba-Lima-Khasab carriageway in the country's Musandam Governorate. Section 2 of the Design-Build-Operate (DBO) project involves a 65km stretch between Daba and Alkhalidya. Work is about to get underway on the Maputo-Catembe bridge and the nearby Bela Vista-Boane and Catembe-Ponta do Ouro roads in Maputo province, Mozambique. Cadmiel Muthemba, Mozambique minister of public works and housing, revealed the imminent start date for the project which will include a bridge spanning around 3km, while the roads will have a combined length of 209km.
Tenders are being invited for the modernisation of a 93km stretch of road between two towns in Moldova. Worth €100.87million (US$131million), the Moldovan transport ministry tender for the upgrade of the route between Sarateni and Dochia, in the north of the country, is divided into four lots.
Serbia said it signed two road construction agreements with China during the 16plus1 Summit in Dubrovnik, Croatia earlier this month.
The two deals are for construction of the Pozega-Boljare and Novi Beograd-Surcin road routes. The Pozega-Boljare project alone is worth €2 billion and will be financed from the existing loan from the Exim Bank, according to media reports.
