Spanish-Indian partners for Indian highways

A European and Indian partnership is teaming up to tackle tendering for major highway projects in India.

A European and Indian partnership is teaming up to tackle tendering for major highway projects in India. A joint venture established by Spanish contractor 3147 Sacyr Vallehermoso and Indian company Essar is tendering for two highway projects in India, a 360km link from Baharagora to Sambalpur and a 350km link from Shivpuri to Dewas. The Baharagora to Sambalpur project is worth some US$783.8 million (€576 million) while the project for the Shivpuri to Dewas highway is worth $714.4 million (€525 million).

    Spanish construction firm OHL presented an offer to operate the 56km Guadalajara-Colima motorway in Mexico for 12 years. The motorway is being heavily restructured, with the expansion of its four lanes. The first phase of these works has already been completed and investment to date has totalled US $54.81million.     Plans are moving forward in Oman for its Batinah highway project. The new route is planned for the north of Oman and Phase 5 of the project will be constructed by a consortium of contractors led by Spanish company Ferrovial.     Australia’s Victoria state government has moved to ensure smaller contractors get a share of the US$12 billion worth of Melbourne city’s North East Link contracts. According to a report in the Australian Financial Review, Victoria state treasurer Tim Pallas said that consortiums bidding for North East Link could not include more than one of the top three local contractors.
