South Africa tender opens

The tender process for a new highway in South Africa is now open for bids. The US$392.5 million project is for the north-west corridor of the Rustenburg Rapid Transport (RRT). Bids are also open now for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and topographical as well as structural services. The RRT is scheduled to start construction in June 2012 and be ready for use in 2015.

    South Africa’s Department of Transport has set a budget of US$773 million to tackle road maintenance and also address a backlog of repairs on provincial roads. This budget is being spent in the 2011-2012 financial year. However increased spending is expected for the 2012-2013, with a budget of $1.17 billion having been set for provincial road maintenance.     The Egyptian Government is opening the tender process for the Rod el Farag highway in July 2012. The highway project is expected to cost US$1 billion to construct and will be carried out in two stages. One section will run from Alexandria Desert Road to the Cairo Ring Road. Meanwhile the second section will run from the Cairo Ring Road to the eastern side of the Nile-Shoubra area and the Al Ismailia Canal Road.
